Construction of the Williamson Surgery Center was completed in 2005 and with more than 22,000 square feet it is the largest surgery center in the county. The state-of-the-art facility is equipped with the latest technology and is adjacent to Williamson Medical Center. Located on the first floor of the new Williamson Tower, the Surgery Center is convenient to many physician offices on the Medical Center campus in Franklin.
WSC offers outpatient procedures, often called ambulatory surgery because patients are otherwise healthy and usually released on the same day. Procedures offered at the surgery center include colonoscopies, gallbladder, hernia, breast biopsy, gynecologic procedures, laparoscopic surgery, plastics, cataracts, ear tubes and tonsils. Same day procedures and surgeries offer patients shorter hospital stays and reduced recovery times without the pain of a large incision.
The new Surgery Center includes:
- 4 operating rooms
- cystoscopy room—used for urinary tract studies
- stereotactic room—commonly used for breast biopsies
- 3 endoscopy suites for colonoscopies
- 18 pre-op rooms and 6 post-anesthesia bays
- 3 staging bays for pain management and post-op
- centrally located nurses station for optimum patient care and observation
- covered ground-level exit for patient privacy
